On 28-29th October we attended the Amsterdam DrupalCon event. DrupalCon is an annual event lasting four days, and is all about sharing, collaborating, networking and connecting to everyone in the Drupal community!
This was a great opportunity as we had the chance to meet people on a global scale and realise the opportunity beyond London and the UK market. We got to meet a number of notable people and companies within the Drupal Community including; Dries Buytaert, Drupal Project Founder, Sue Black, Professor of Computer Science and Technology Evangelist, UK Government Strategic Advisor, Women’s Equality party Candidate for London Mayor 2020, Professional Speaker, Author, Boris Veldjuijzen Van Zanten, CEO and Co-Founder of thenextweb.com, amaze.io, and annertech.
- The community were pleased that we attended and were part of the event.
- Meeting some familiar and a lot of new faces!
- That the European market is a lot newer to the “agency recruiter model” and they actually welcome our knowledge and experience.
- That one of the main ambitions of the Drupal Community is to increase Diversity.
- Drupal 9 is coming!!!
Unfortunately not a lot of sightseeing was done, it was lift off from London at 8, touch down by 9, working from 10-6, dinner with a new client and then DrupalCon 9-6.
However, Amsterdam was an amazing city to visit and had specific features which made the city stand out. For example, the bikes! You can never look too many times when crossing a road in the streets of Amsterdam. One of the best things about Amsterdam, along with the bikes, compared to anywhere we have ever been was the airport security! No need to empty your bag they have state of the art scanners which mean no need to empty your liquids/laptops etc out of your bag. It’s the little things that make a big difference.
Overall, we was inspired how Drupal is alive and thriving with huge excitement and was inspired by the talks and discussions which took place.
